One of the hottest acts on Smackdown as of late has been the team of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. The two have set aside their rivalry and have teamed up ever since Zayn turned heel at Hell in a Cell. It was reported earlier in the day that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were sent home today by WWE. The two had been touring the United Kingdom with the rest of the WWE roster, but the two have been told to go back home. Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso broke the news earlier today, and he claimed that Vince McMahon approved the decision to remove Zayn and Owens from the overseas tour not long after last night’s edition of Smackdown.
Zayn, Owens, and WWE all have yet to comment on the recent situation between them. However, Pro Wrestling Sheet has obtained some information on the subject. It appears that the two were sent home from the United Kingdom earlier today for not following a creative directive that was given to them. In other words, the two may have gone off script during their segment on this week’s edition of Smackdown, which is obviously strictly against company policy. Some backstage sources have also claimed that the two have been difficult to work with lately and both have seemed unhappy in recent weeks. The two are also very close to Neville and Jimmy Jacobs, both of whom have had a falling out with WWE recently.
The main reason why the choice to remove the two from the tour was made is still said to be because Zayn and Owens “went into business for themselves” last night. Pro Wrestling Sheet says that after Sami Zayn and Kofi Kingston faced off against each other, Owens attacking Kofi was planned. Zayn and Owens were then supposed to be beaten down by Big E and Xavier Woods, but the two instead chose to run to the back for whatever reason. The New Day stood in the ring puzzled and the sound crew did not play anyone’s music to end the segment either. We’ll be sure to continuously update this story as more developments continue to unfold.
