Former Jim Crockett Promotions, WWF, and WCW announcer Tony Schiavone made a return to wrestling for the first time since 2003 when he called the main event of a Warriors of Wrestling independent show called Extreme Heat. He called the main event W.O.W. title match between “The Ripper” Jasin Karloff and Chris Steeler.
Schiavone first started broadcasting wrestling in the early 80’s for Jim Crockett’s Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and stayed with the company until early 1989. He then joined the then-WWF as an interviewer and low-level play by play announcer where he broadcast on Wrestling Challenge as well as Summerslam 1989 and the 1990 Royal Rumble. He left the company soon after and returned to what was now World Championship Wrestling where he stayed until the very last show in March of 2001. After the company was bought out by the WWF, he called the action for the pilot shows of Jimmy Hart’s failed XWF promotion. He made a few appearances for TNA playing a bitter version of himself before fading from wrestling completely. He returned to calling baseball and video surfaced of him working for a Starbucks over the years since then.
While this appears to be a one-night comeback for Tony, it shows he still has some interest in wrestling so the door doesn’t appear to be completely closed on doing it again.
