As reported by L’Équipe and Goal France, PSG are planning to recruit a dedicated full-time psychologist to assists their first team squad for the coming season.
Paris’ mental fortitude has been repeatedly called into question during the QSI area after several collapses and non-performances in the latter stages of the Champions League knockout rounds – Karim Benzema’s 16 minute hat-trick for Real Madrid, which knocked PSG out in last season’s round of 16, being the most recent, and possibly worst, example.
Amid a re-organisation of the leadership and background staff at the club this summer, which includes the appointment of a full-time nutritionist for the senior squad too, Paris are looking to take steps to overcome their lack of mental strength at key moments. The incoming psychologist will be in charge of strengthening team spirit and instigating team building exercises within the group.
Their arrival, however, is not imminent as coach Christophe Galtier and Luis Campos, the new de-facto sporting director, are planning to fully assesses the needs of their squad for the new season before making a decision over the appointment.
