Premier League side Manchester United made an enquiry for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette yesterday, according to L’Équipe.
The player was seemingly all set for a move to Atletico Madrid until it was confirmed yesterday that they are banned from recruiting players this summer.
Speaking to reporters last night, Lyon President Aulas had the following to say: “His transfer to Atletico will not happen, his decision to depart is now up in the air.”
This scenario has presented Lacazette with several options. The first is to do what Arda Turan did when Barcelona encountered such a situation and sign this summer anyway without being able to play until January. The second would be to sign this summer and go back to Lyon on loan for 6 months. By the sounds of it, both those options have been ruled out by President Aulas.
The third option is to change destination. Manchester United have arrived on the scene and lead the race, according to L’Équipe, ahead of Dortmund (who are waiting for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to depart) and Arsenal (Lacazette was a bit turned off by the Gunners’ failure to go all out to secure him last summer).
Even though Lacazette’s team will give themselves some time now before making the best possible decision, Arsenal will need to take a quick decision to convince him.
Liverpool have yet to make any contact whatsoever.
