Pep Guardiola’s severely depleted squad take on the German giants in their next International Champions Cup encounter

Manchester City are back in action on Sunday, when they will face Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently without a win in the competition, after losing 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund and 2-1 to Liverpool.

Bayern, meanwhile, won their opening game, beating PSG 3-1, but were defeated by Juventus 2-0 in the second outing.

Both sides, then, will be looking for a momentum-building win, though it may be of more importance to City, who return to competitive action in the Community Shield next week.

Bayern made a huge amount of changes to their starting XI against Juventus, as they were soundly beaten.

The likes of David Alaba and Arjen Robben could start against City, however, having been on the bench versus the Italian giants.

Potential Chelsea XI: Ulreich; Rafinha, Stanisic, Martinez, Alaba; Robben, Sanches, Will, Thiago, Ribery; Wagner

Position Man City players
Goalkeepers Bravo, Hart, Grimshaw, Muric
Defenders Laporte, Ogbeta, Wilson, Adarabioyo, Denayer, Garcia, Humphreys
Midfielders Mahrez, Foden, Zinchenko, Luiz, Harrison, Foden, Diaz, Pozo, Dele-Bashiru
Forwards Sane, Roberts, Nmecha, Touaizi, Garre, Bolton, Matondo

City have far from a full-strength squad, but will be able to call upon Riyad Mahrez’s talents after signing the Algerian from Leicester City this summer.

Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz are both highly regarded by Pep Guardiola, while Joe Hart could play in goal after featuring against Liverpool.

Potential Inter XI: Hart; Denayer, Laporte, Humphreys; Sane, Mahrez, Foden, Harrison, Roberts; Diaz, Nmecha

Bayern Munich are narrow favourites, at 19/20, while City can be found at 12/5, per dabblebet. The draw is 11/4.

Both Bayern and City are without a number of key players, making for an intriguing, if somewhat star-deprived, encounter in the International Champions Cup.

Guardiola’s side, for example, is a shell of that which won the Premier League title, with many of their key players still on holiday after their World Cup exertions.

Riyad Mahrez has a chance to stake his claim for a regular place in the team, then, while Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz could well convince Guardiola to involve them even more in 2018-19.

Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane are the only other experienced outfield players, while Joe Hart could earn himself a transfer with a sterling display.

City need to be aware, however, that the Community Shield, and a clash with Chelsea, looms large, as does the beginning of the Premier League season.

Bayern and Niko Kovac have slightly more time, but will still want to bring all of their key players to full fitness before embarking on another Bundesliga campaign.
