Fashion rumours, it seems, can come out of nowhere as quickly as a catwalk trend, but also be over as swiftly as it started. The rumour of Jean-Paul Gaultier leaving French luxury house Hermès, is a case in point. The internet was full of stories of the revered designer leaving his post to focus on his ready-to-wear. Fashion blogs, news sites and even were privy to the whispers and many journalists were convinced Mr Gaultier and Hermès were to part after his SS10 Paris October fashion week show.
Rightfully, the Hermès press office have spoken out and released an official statement which said: “Hermès and Jean-Paul Gaultier have no intention of ending their fruitful collaboration. These rumors are without any foundation.”
The designer joined the House as creative director in 2003 (following Martin Margiela’s resignation) and brought new life and profits to the luxury label. In July Hermès in July posted a 12 percent increase in earnings for the quarter ending June 30th.
