In what could be the first-of-its-kind case in the country, the Calcutta High Court has reinstated a judge who was forced to retire 11 years ago and imposed a cost of Rs 1 lakh on its own.

Justice Mintu Mallick was reinstated by a division bench comprising Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Suvra Ghosh ordered that “costs assessed at Rs 1 lakh to be paid by the high court to the appellant.”
