CALABASAS, CA – A horse named Tex is healing Monday after a dramatic rescue from a Calabasas creek by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Malibu Search and Rescue team. Malibu Search and Rescue along with the Los Angeles County Fire department and the LACFD Urban Search and Rescue Team were called in to help the horse after he fell into a creek near Cold Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway Sunday afternoon.

Officials made multiple attempts to pull Tex out of the rocks and flowing creek, but were unsuccessful. In the video posted to Twitter by the Malibu Search and Rescue team, the horse can be seen laying on its side in a muddy area between two large rocks, flailing its legs while attempting to stand.

After a three hour operation, the horse was saved using a “high point rope directional off of a hillside tree,” according to the tweet. Tex was sedated multiple times by a veterinarian during the rescue operations, but was able to walk away on his own legs once he was eventually saved.
