Volunteer assistant coach Zach Sanders and two members of the Minnesota Storm Regional Training Center (RTC) are registered to compete at the 2019 Last Chance Senior World Team Trials Qualifier.

Held at Kohler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania from May 3-5, the highest placing wrestler at each weight that is not already qualified will earn a qualification to the 2019 World Team Trials in Raleigh, North Carolina from May 16-19.

The tournament will begin on Friday afternoon and the finals for the senior men’s freestyle competitors will occur the next morning. All action can be streamed live FloWreslintg with a Pro subscription. A full schedule for men’s freestyle can be found below.

Sanders, (57kg) a four-time All-American in Maroon and Gold, placed eighth last weekend at the US Open, just one spot shy of qualification. In between the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Championships, Sanders traveled to Yakutsk, Russia, to represent the United States at the Freestyle World Cup.

He will be joined by RTC members Daniel DeShazer (61kg) and Elroy Perkin (70kg) while being coached by RTC Coach, and Gophers national champion, Dustin Schlatter.

Eight current and former Gophers qualified for the Senior World Team trials in freestyle wrestling. The list includes Mitch McKee (65kg), Jayson Ness (65kg), Brett Pfarr (86kg), Tony Nelson (125kg), and Gable Steveson (125kg). Patrick McKee (57kg), Brayton Lee (70kg) and Jake Allar (79kg) have also earned their spots on the junior’s side.

RTC member Hayden Zillmer has also earned a spot at 92kg. Former “U” wrestler Pat Smith has also qualified at 77kg in Greco-Roman wrestling.

11am: Senior Men’s Freestyle (consolation Rd 4 and consolation semifinals)
