North Korea’s leadership will be delighted at Donald Trump’s decision to fire his hawkish national security adviser and to rely more on his own “gut feelings” on foreign policy challenges, analysts have told The Telegraph.

The US president said he fired John Bolton on Tuesday, citing differences of opinion on how to tackle the diplomatic impasse with Pyongyang, as well as similarly difficult positions with regard to Afghanistan and Iran.

Mr Bolton, who claimed he had resigned, has long been an advocate of the president taking a firmer hand with Pyongyang, an attitude that has made him deeply unpopular with Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader.
