SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 23 Augustana wrestling team heads east for the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. over the weekend. The tournament will feature 39 Division II and NAIA schools at the Nicoson Hall and the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center on the campus of the University of Indianapolis. The tournament runs Dec. 17-18 with Saturday’s session beginning at 9 a.m. (CT).

The top wrestlers entering the Midwest Classic for the Vikings are Aero Amo (184) and Michael Lowman (285). Amo has a record of 14-3 with a team-high six falls, two tech falls and one major decision. Amo is 7-0 in duals on the season and is riding an 11-match winning streak. Amo is currently ranked No. 2 at 184 pounds in the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll.

Lowman enters the Midwest Classic with a 10-4 record and is 3-1 in duals. Lowman has four bonus point victories with one fall, one tech fall and two major decisions.

No. 23 Augustana won’t be the only team ranked out of the field of 39 teams. The Midwest Classic will feature 13 ranked Division II teams, including six ranked in the top-10. The ranked teams include: No. 2 Maryville, No. 4 McKendree, No. 6 Mercyhurst, tied at No. 7 Upper Iowa and Northern State, No. 9 Pitt-Johnstown, tied at No. 11 Ashland and Newberry, No. 13 Findlay, tied at No. 15 UIndy and Tiffin, No. 17 Seton Hill and No. 21 Lake Erie.

The Vikings will have next week off for the Holiday break and will return to action for the Warrior-Viking Open on Dec. 31 in Fremont, Neb. beginning at 9 a.m.
