MINNEAPOLIS — Picking up wins in seven of the 10 weight classes, the No. 2-ranked Augsburg University wrestling team posted a 33-15 victory over the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in the Auggies final dual meet of the season.
Augsburg, ranked No. 2 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national poll, won seven of the 10 bouts wrestled on Friday, claiming three pins and a technical fall en route to the victory.
Augsburg was led by pins from No. 4-ranked Sam Bennyhoff (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS), No. 2-ranked David Flynn (SO, Jordan, Minn./Jordan HS (Scott West)) and No. 2-ranked Lucas Jeske (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS).
Bennyhoff claimed a fall over Matt Berlin at 133 pounds in 3:34, moving his record to 28-5 on the season, while Flynn made it two straight pins for the Auggies with a 1:29 fall over Drosianos Lourvaris at 141 pounds. Jeske was able to post a first period pin over Tanner Goddard at 2:07, moving his record to 31-1 this season.
No 3-ranked Alex Wilson (JR, Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) led Luke Smiley 2-1 going into the third period and was able to score a two-point nearfall with 29 seconds to go, which along with a stalling point and riding point gave him a hard-fought 6-1 decision to move his record to 28-4 overall.
Ryan Epps (SO, Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls HS), ranked No.1 nationally at 157 pounds, improved to 34-1 on the year with his 18th straight victory, a 9-0 major decision over David Grantelli. He is now 68-8 in his two Auggie seasons.
At 174 pounds, Tanner Vassar (SO, Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake HS) showed a strong performance, collecting three nearfalls as he earned a 15-0 technical fall victory in the second period over Austin Stebane.
Claiming the final victory of the night for Augsburg was No. 9-ranked Lance Benick (FY, Fridley, Minn./Totino-Grace HS), who picked up a 12-6 decision over Dylan Diebitz.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
Against opponents from Divisions II and III, Augsburg is now 327-51-1 in dual meets since the 1989-90 season. Augsburg has lost just 47 matches to non-Division I opponents since the 1995-96 season
Against strictly NCAA Division III opponents, Augsburg is now 317-50-1 since the 1979-80 season. Since the 1989-90 season, Augsburg is 242-40-1 against Division III opponents.

Ben Vosters earned a hard-fought 3-2 decision over No. 10-ranked Victor Gliva to move to 24-8 on the season.
UWSP picked earned two pins on the night, Dan Squires pinned No. 8-ranked Sebastian Larson at 184 pounds, while Ross Agg claimed a 1:14 fall over Ethan Hofacker at Heavyweight.
