It has been the plan for three long years that Roman Reigns would defeat Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania to become the world champion and take the throne as WWE’s most dominant superstar. After the wait of a lifetime for a match that many fans did NOT want to see in the first place, the self-proclaimed “Big Dog” leaves New Orleans… empty handed.
Brock Lesnar defeated Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 34 to retain the WWE Universal Championship. That is now a fact, and it cannot be taken back.

The champion’s contract is schedule to expire in just a few days and it was widely believed that he would not be re-signing with the company, as he did three years ago when signing another three-year deal. UFC President Dana White, who was in attendance Sunday night to support Ronda Rousey, has even publicly stated that Lesnar will return to MMA for another fight; there are rumors that the two sides are currently negotiating a deal.
Lesnar’s shocking win over Reigns wasn’t the only unexpected outcome at WrestleMania 34. For a show many considered to be highly predictable, odds are that nearly everyone’s prediction cards were completely ruined not even halfway through the night. As noted, Charlotte Flair ended Asuka’s undefeated streak to retain the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship, John Cena lost what was essentially a “squash match” to the Undertaker, and 2018 Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura actually LOST to AJ Styles.
The question now is, where does Roman Reigns – and the WWE storytelling machine as a whole – go from here, now that the Big Dog has suffered his ultimate defeat? Hopefully we’ll find out a bit more tomorrow night on the biggest night of WWE Monday Night RAW of the year.
