Brooks Koepka may have been denied the FedEx Cup and a $15 million payday last weekend at East Lake by Rory McIlroy, but for the second straight year, the American has won the PGA of America Player of the Year race—edging out the Ulsterman by six points.
Unlike the PGA Tour which decides its Player of the Year award via a player vote, the PGA of America uses a point system with points being awarded for wins, scoring average and placement on the season-long money list. Koepka’s three-win season which included his fourth major championship victory at the PGA Championship saw the 29-year-old earn a total of 84 points.
Koepka is now the first player to win consecutive PGA Player of the Year awards since Tiger Woods in 2007.

The PGA Tour is expected to announce its Player of the Year within the next few weeks, and it is worth noting that the player who has won the PGA Player of the Year award has also won the Tour’s Player of the Year award every year since 1992.
