WWE is hyping that there will be an open challenge from Buddy Murphy on next week’s 205 Live.
This Wednesday’s 205 Live episode closed with Murphy doing a backstage interview and saying that he’s issuing an open challenge next week to anyone who meets the 205-pound weight limit. Though he’s the Cruiserweight Champion, Murphy said it’s a non-title open challenge. He closed his promo by saying it’s a chance to prove him wrong and stop the unstoppable.
Murphy will be defending the Cruiserweight title in a fatal four-way match against Kalisto, Akira Tozawa, and Hideo Itami at the Royal Rumble in Phoenix, Arizona on January 27. Itami defeated Cedric Alexander in the final qualifying match for the Royal Rumble fatal four-way on this week’s 205 Live. Kalisto defeated Lio Rush in his qualifier last week, and Tozawa defeated Drew Gulak.
The 205 Live episode from last week also included Drake Maverick announcing that there will be fresh faces coming to the show in 2019. He said he’s been talking to “general managers of other brands and scouring all corners of the globe” for up-and-coming cruiserweight wrestlers.
