Competing for attention
Keeping track of German Eurovision entries.
Last week’s Entre Nous featured an item about Germany’s entry for the Eurovision song contest. It provoked the following response, received in the European Voice office on Monday (12 April):
Under the headline ‘A grand European tradition’ and under a photo of the singer Lena Meyer-Landrut one can read ‘Lena Meyer-Landrut narrowly beat former European commissioner Michaele Schreyer into second place in the contest for Germany’s Eurovision entry’.
I was really surprised to read such a nonsense. I have never in my life participated in a song contest for the Eurovision contest and I will never do it. I have no idea why you have printed such a nonsense and it would have been very easy to verify that your message is wrong as the contest for Germany’s entry into the Eurovision contest was a public and broadcasted event.
I expect a correction.
Kind regards,
Michaele Schreyer
Former member of the European Commission
Entre Nous is still attempting to verify the authenticity of this request. But if there are any ex-European commissioners out there who take the photo-captions on this page literally, they may want to know that the runner-up in this year’s Germany’s Eurovision song contest was Jennifer Braun.
