(20-Dec) -- Three-time Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton has acknowledged
that a published report asserting that the 44 year-old Madison, Wisc.,
mother was leading a double life as a $600 per hour escort in Las Vegas
was true. The detailed report, posted at TheSmokingGun.com, an often
sensational investigative news website, said that Favor Hamilton had begun
working as an escort in December, 2011 under the name "Kelly Lundy" to fulfill
a fantasy.
"I try my best to bring elegance and class to the table, and will dress appropriately
for any occasion," read her profile on the website potential clients would browse to
engage her services. "I enjoy men of all shapes, sizes and colors, and I have an affinity
for woman as well (I am bisexual) so I consider dates with couples an experience to cherish."
Favor Hamilton, who clashed often with the doping-disgraced Regina Jacobs during her athletics career, was exposed by a reporter who confronted her with the
charge in Las Vegas (the reporter had obtained the information from one of her clients). She acknowledged that the report was true via her Twitter feed today.
"I was drawn to escorting in large part because it provided many coping mechanisms for me when I was going through a very challenging time with my marriage and
my life," Favor Hamilton tweeted. "It provided an escape from a life that I was struggling in. It was a double life."
She continued: "I do not expect people to understand, but the reasons for doing this made sense to me at the time and were very much related to depression. As
crazy as I know it seems, I never thought I would be exposed, therefore never hurting anybody."
TheSmokingGun.com report showed photos of Favor Hamilton in provocative poses and outfits which had been posted on her escort service profile. In all of the
photos, her face was blurred to hide her identity.
"As it is to you, discretion is EXTREMELY important to me, hence you will only see blurred photos of my face on this site," read her profile. "I know that this
is not ideal, but I hope you understand that it is essential for me.
Although her high-level competitive career ended in 2004, Favor Hamilton still played a role in the fitness industry as a public figure. She gave motivational
speeches and did appearances for the Disney Marathon and Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series. According to TheSmokingGun.com, she coordinated some of her escort work
with her sporting event appearance schedule.
Favor Hamilton asserted today that she is trying to put this chapter of her life behind her. "I have been seeking the help of a psychologist for the past few
weeks and will continue to do so after I have put things together," she tweeted. "I cannot emphasize enough how sorry I am to anyone I have hurt as a result of
my actions and greatly appreciate the support from family."
