Finn Balor returns to WWE SmackDown, interrupts Sami Zayn

On the same night that WWE returned to touring, Finn Balor made his return to the main roster.

Balor made a surprise return to SmackDown on tonight’s episode of the show at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Balor interrupted Sami Zayn during an in-ring promo where Zayn was complaining about the conspiracy against him that allegedly exists in WWE.

Zayn disingenuously welcomed Balor back to SmackDown but then went to attack him. After avoiding the attack, Balor gave Zayn a dropkick into the corner and then hit the Coup de Grace.

This was Balor’s first main roster appearance since losing to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam 2019. In October of that year, Balor joined the NXT roster following NXT’s move to the USA Network.

Balor won the NXT Championship in September 2020. He lost the title to Karrion Kross at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver this April. In his final match in NXT before returning to the main roster, Balor lost a rematch against Kross in May.
