Thailand’s prime minister, General Prayuth Chan-o-cha, has ditched his decorated olive green military uniform for a new business casual wardrobe in an effort to convince sceptical voters of his definitive switch from soldier to politician ahead of a March 24 poll.
In the final stretches of a turbulent election campaign, he has released a slew of publicity photos -dressed in smart blazers, coyishly holding his head and fixing his tie, even wearing a baseball cap – as part of an attempt to rebrand himself from disciplinarian military ruler to a gentler, relaxed uncle figure.
He has suddenly embraced social media, awkwardly hugged grandmother voters, and released his eighth single – “New Day”…
