French department store Galeries Lafayette is teaming up with Airbnb to
offer shoppers the chance to spend the night in its Parisian store the
night before its winter sale starts in January.
The event, part of Airbnb’s ‘A Night At’ initiative, will offer six
people the opportunity to sleepover at the department store after the store
has shut on January 6. The guests will have unprecedented behind-the-scenes
access to the January sales; they will receive a tour of the department
store, a first look at sale items, help from a personal shopper, as well as
a 200 euro gift voucher to shop the sale.

In addition, each guest will also receive dinner and will spend the
night in one of the prêt-a-porter departments, under the store’s famous
century-old glass dome.
In order to win, shoppers must visit the Galeries Lafayette’s listing
on Airbnb before December 28 and say, in no more than 100 words, why they
should be the one to stay the night in the department store. Entries will
be judged on not only originality and creativity of the submission but also
the spirit of the entry, and whether it relates to Galeries Lafayette and
fashion.
The store has also laid out a number of house rules for the winners –
only “fashion victims” even in pyjamas will be accepted, that neither they
or Airbnb can be responsible for the “outbreak of any shopping spree
attacks”, and that it strongly advices that you infuriate your friends and
family by “posting/tweeting pictures of yourself” in the store.
Airbnb has previously teamed up with Waterstones in the UK, an Ikea
store in Australia, and offered a night’s sleep on a specially-fitted KLM
plane in Amsterdam.
