Flood-ravaged Kerala is struggling to provide relief to the nearly 2.8 lakh people who have been displaced by the heavy rains and floods.

Most of those displaced in the floods have also lost their life’s saving including their homes to the waters. The Kerala government had sought a Central assistance of Rs 3,000 crore for relief works. The government has however only sanctioned Rs 52 crore as an initial assistance to the Kerala government.

Most of the relief camps which are run by the Kerala government are also dependent on donors for almost everything from foodgrains to clothes and medicine. The Kerala Government is also trying to raise funds to help the flood victims through the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
