Smackdown this week ended in spectacular fashion when Kevin Owens pummeled a helpless Vince McMahon, even causing him to bleed from the head after a headbutt. Prior to the incident, Vince McMahon announced that he only suspended Shane from Smackdown because he felt as if he hadn’t done enough damage to Owens. Vince reinstated his son and made a match between him and Owens official for Hell in a Cell. If that was not enough, it is confirmed that the match is going to be taking place inside of the titular structure as well. The match will be taking place at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view from Detroit, Michigan on October 8th.
The encounter between Vince McMahon and Kevin Owens wasn’t the only memorable moment on Smackdown this week. The Usos put their Smackdown Tag Team Championships on the line in a street fight against The New Day during the show. After a hard-hitting battle, Kofi Kingston and Big E managed to hit the Midnight Hour to win the titles from the twin brothers. This is the fourth time that the team has won the tag team titles during their time together. Some news sources have reported that WWE intends to have The New Day break the record for most tag team title reigns in the company’s history. The team already set a record last year when they surpassed Demolition for having the longest tag team title reign for a single run.
The city of Orlando was one of the locations that was devastated by Hurricane Irma recently. The disastrous storm caused issues for numerous WWE personalities living in the area, and the company was forced to cancel some NXT live events prior to the hurricane. It has since been announced that a future NXT television taping from Full Sail University has been cancelled due to the inclement weather. The tapings were scheduled to take place tonight, but WWE.com has since announced that they are postponing the tapings until this Thursday. The usual 6:30pm bell time is still in effect, and it appears as though the show will commence taping tomorrow.
