NEWBERRY, S.C. – The final Division II Wrestling Coaches’ Poll for the 2015-16 season has been released, and the panel foresees a tight race for the team title in Sioux Falls this weekend. The defending national champion St. Cloud State University received a number four ranking in the final DII poll for 2015-16.

The top five teams were all the same across the panel, but in varying orders for the tightest top of the poll we’ve seen this season. Maryville and the Saints’ 10 qualifiers will take the No. 1 ranking into the tournament with 152 points and five first place votes. Pitt-Johnstown snagged two first-place votes and 150 points and the No. 2 ranking entering the tournament, just two points back of Maryville. Notre Dame earned the other first place vote and 144 points to earn the No. 3 ranking.

Defending champions St. Cloud State garnered 139 points and the No. 4 ranking, while Nebraska-Kearney rounds out the top five with 135 points.
Wisconsin-Parkside, Mercyhurst, California Baptist, Ashland and Newberry round out the top 10.

Individually, SCSU has six wrestlers ranked in this week’s DII polls and the Huskies will bring seven wrestlers to the upcoming NCAA DII championships this weekend. SCSU’s Brett Velasquez is ranked #3 at 125-pounds and Jay Hildreth is ranked #3 at 149-pounds and Clint Poster is ranked #1 at 165-pounds for the Huskies. At 174-pounds, Clayton Jennissen is ranked seventh and Uthman Rabiu is ranked #8 at 184-pounds. The group is completed by Austin Goergen, who is ranked #2 at 285-pounds.

Final Division II Wrestling Coaches’ Poll

The Huskies will begin action at the NCAA championships on Friday, March 11 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, March 12. Fans can listen to the action on the KVSC Sports Stream with John O. Peterson on the call.
