L’Équipe report today that Marseille club president Pablo Longoria has made Croatian manager Igor Tudor his priority choice to replace Jorge Sampaoli, the Argentine having suddenly decided to leave the club yesterday afternoon.

Longoria could nevertheless sense that change was afoot and was already working on potential new coaches, with Roberto De Zerbi of Shakhtar Donetsk and Julien Stéphan of Strasbourg also on the shortlist.

Tudor is the likeliest name for the time being, with the former Hellas Verona manager and Juventus assistant fitting Longoria’s criteria in terms of finding a young coach with a clear playing philosophy.

The former Bianconeri defender’s arrival could be completed quickly, with the Spaniard having indicated that he would like to wrap up the new arrival in the near future, speaking at his press conference yesterday afternoon to announce Sampaoli’s departure.

Sampaoli had reportedly left Marseille over a perceived lack of ambition in the opening weeks of the transfer window, having called for new signings ahead of next season’s Champions League group stage campaign.
