The 2017 Academy Award Nominations were announced today, and the John Cena lead movie “Ferdinand” was nominated in the Best Animated Film category. The movie is nominated up against “The Boss Baby,” “The Breadwinner,” “Coco,” (which won the Golden Globe Award) and “Loving Vincent”.

In “Ferdinand”, John Cena voices the titular character, and as of now the movie has grossed a total of $191 million at the box office, making it a successful project despite opening at the same time as box office heavyweights “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.

Cena In Talks to Star In Adaptation of Hugely Popular ’90’s Video Game

In related news, Variety is reporting that John Cena is in talks to star in the big screen adaptation of “Duke Nukem”, based on the popular 1990s first-person shooter video game. Duke Nukem is a muscular cigar-chomping man who always wears Ray-Bans and sports a flat-top haircut as he fights aliens to save planet Earth by using enormous physical strength and his expertise in firearms.

Variety adds the project is set up at Paramount-based Platinum Dunes, which is operated by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. No director or writer is attached as of this writing.
