Canal + reported last night before Lyon kicked-off against Nantes in Ligue 1 that two physical fights had occurred amongst the Les Gones camp this week: Nabil Fékir supposedly coming to blows with Marcelo and Ferland Mendy entering into a fight with Memphis Depay.
All four players did not start the game against Les Canaris yesterday evening, that the club eventually lost 2-1, making it three consecutive defeats for Lyon in all competitions.
After the game, a series of figures from the Lyon hierarchy moved to deny claims that these physical fights occurred.
Lyon left-back Ferland Mendy posted a Tweet ridiculing the claims, making clear that it was impossible for him to be involved in any fight as he has been injured and therefore not been in team training: “FAKE NEWS: Mr consultants and journalists from Canal Plus it is important to verify your information before putting it out! How could I be part of an altercation in a training session that I was never in! Bottom line, I hope to come back quickly to help my team-mates.”

Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas echoed his player’s words, speaking to Canal Plus after the match:
“Have there been tensions? Of course, but the idea that there was fighting is false. Especially when you incriminate a player in a fight who was not even in training, because he was injured.”
Maligned manager Bruno Génésio reinforced this:
“It is false. Ferland Mendy is injured. I don’t see how there could have been fights in training with players who aren’t training.”
