MANKATO, MINN — In a busy week of wrestling, the Mavericks will host three Division III schools starting Thursday against the Johnnies of St. John’s University, and finishing with a three-way dual against St. Olaf and UW-Oshkosh on Saturday.
Coming off a home-opener victory over MSU Moorhead a week ago, the Mavericks will look to keep their unbeaten home record alive. Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.) kept his undefeated record going last week as he moved to 13-0 on the season.
Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.) has climbed his way into the national rankings this week, where he ranks seventh. Cooling holds a 17-3 record on the year.
Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) also comes into his first dual of the year being ranked, where he sits eighth in Division II. VanDeLoo has amassed a 12-1 record, with his only defeat coming at the National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Malcolm Allen (R-Sr., 285 lbs.) holds a 5-1 record in duals this year and an 11-7 record overall. Allen is coming off a big victory via fall over Nader Abdullatif (MSU Moorhead) that helped secure the Maverick victory over the Dragons.
Minnesota State hosts St. John’s University on Thursday night. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Johnnies last competed at the Lakeland (WI) Duals on January 9, where they finished 2-1 as a team. They defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering by a final score of 40-7 and then the University of Chicago by a final score of 33-20.
The Mavericks play host to a three-way dual on Saturday in Taylor Center, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. The Titans of UW-Oshkosh and the Oles of St. Olaf will be squaring off against the Mavericks. All three teams will be wrestling against each other at a point in time during the day.
