DENVER, CO — A new law in Colorado has made vaping indoors illegal, with some exceptions. Public health officials say the new law will protect people from second-hand exposure.

People can no longer vape inside any public building or any business, with the exception of cigar and tobacco bars and cannabis clubs. Vaping is also forbidden within 25 feet of a building’s main doorway.

Statewide indoor vaping bans are already in place in a dozen states, but many governments have left it up to municipalities to enforce their own bans. More than 600 municipalities across the country have placed the same bans on vaping as tobacco cigarettes. High schools have been revising their tobacco rules to ban vaping on school grounds.

The new law puts vaping in the same category as tobacco cigarettes under the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act.

Colorado’s teen vaping rate is the highest among all states, according to the American Lung Association. Supporters of the new law are hoping it will discourage e-cigarette use among teens.
