Ohio State Football’s Drue Chrisman put on a memorable halftime show during the team’s spring game when he proposed to his longtime love on the field.
The punter popped the question to girlfriend Avery Eliason in front of more than 60,000 fans on Saturday at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

In order to surprise Eliason, Chrisman said he convinced her that she was to come onto the field at halftime with other players’ girlfriends as part of a field-goal-kicking contest.
Chrisman was already waiting for her on bended knee, since he was holding the ball for her to kick, but as soon as she arrived, he pulled out the ring.

As soon as Eliason nodded yes, Chrisman wrapped her in a hug as his fellow teammates stormed the field to congratulate the happy couple.
“Thank you to everyone who made today possible! So grateful my brothers and #BuckeyeNation could be a part of it…,” Chrisman wrote on Twitter.

Added Eliason, “It warmed my heart when I found out how many people were involved in making this happen. So so thankful.”
Chrisman told reporters that he and Elison have been dating for about a year, but that they go back much farther.
“I’ve known her my whole life, actually. She was my neighbor growing up, so I finally got out of the friend zone,” he said.

Eliason is currently a student at Brigham Young University, but Chrisman said she’ll likely enroll soon at Ohio State.
The football star said they plan to get married in spring 2019.
