More than 270 election workers in Indonesia have died, primarily due to fatigue-related illnesses caused by long work hours spent on counting millions of ballot papers manually in biggest one-day elections.

Over 1,878 workers had fallen ill.

The poll body had employed close to seven million people to count and monitor elections in Indonesia.
