Just one week after Pete Davidson caught flak for referencing ex Ariana Grande in a jokey SNL promo, the comedian is once again under fire for his choice of material.

On Saturday, Davidson cracked a joke about Republican congressional candidate and former Navy Seal Dan Crenshaw, who lost an eye serving in Afghanistan. During a Weekend Update segment in which Davidson gave his first impressions on politicians running in the midterm elections, the 24-year-old said Crenshaw, who wears an eye patch, looked like “a hitman from a porno.”
“You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie,” he said. “I’m sorry. I know he lost his eye in war or whatever.”
Unsurprisingly, the 24-year-old’s joke did not sit well, and many on social media were quick to air their grievances and call for the comedian to issue an apology. Now, even his own SNL castmate says that Davidson may have crossed the line.
“He definitely missed the mark,” said Kenan Thompson — whose father is Vietnam veteran — on TODAY. “I personally would never necessarily go there but it’s tough when you’re fishing for jokes.”

In a strange turn of events, the one person who doesn’t feel an apology is necessary, is Crenshaw. The candidate told TMZ that society needs to get away from “this culture where we demand an apology every time somebody misspeaks”.
Instead, Crenshaw gave Davidson a bit of advice for his future jokes.
“I would like him and Saturday Night Live to recognize something which is that veterans around the country probably don’t feel as though their wounds that they received in a battle should be the subject of a bad punchline for a bad joke.”
Since his engagement ended last month, the jokester has had a bit of a tough time, what with the cancelled gigs and the rumored roommate search. Maybe he should take a cue from Grande and try practicing some self-care to help him move on.
