WWE and Netflix appear to be partnering up.
PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE Studios and Netflix are teaming up to release films, as well as other content geared towards the family audience demographic, exclusively via the popular subscription streaming service.
The first project coming out of the WWE / Netflix deal is a movie called “The Main Event.” The PWInsider report lists the following description for the film:
- “The Main Event tells the story of a ten-year old boy who is bullied but dreams of growing up to become a WWE professional wrestler. However, he gets to live his dream earlier when he discovers the secret to having super-strength in his breakfast cereal, becoming “The Spaghetti Kid.”
It’s rumored that the current version of the script for “The Main Event,” which was written by Larry Postel, includes a cameo role for John Cena, multiple WWE and NXT references, as well as small roles for The Miz, Bray Wyatt and Sheamus.
“The Main Event” movie is currently in the casting and crew-staffing process. The project is rumored to begin filming this summer, with a location yet to be determined.
