On Wednesday afternoon, Tour officials announced that Rory McIlroy secured the PGA Tour Player of the Year Award for the third time in his illustrious career.
The Ulsterman topped Brooks Koepka, Matt Kuchar and Xander Schauffele in a vote by players for the Jack Nicklaus Award, after a season which saw him claim three PGA Tour victories – including the Tour Championship.
Speaking after taking home the award, McIlroy stated
The result marks the first time since 1992 that the winner of the PGA Player of the Year Award (which Koepka won last month) has not gone on to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year Award.
SungJae Im won the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Award, after the South Korean recorded 16 top-25 finishes and seven top-10 finishes in 35 starts.
