#2 St. Cloud State wrestling topples Northern State, 44-4
The #2 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (10-1, 2-0 NSIC) added its second conference victory of the season with a 44-4 win at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. on Saturday, Jan. 23.
The victory was SCSU’s fourth consecutive dual match victory and it extends the Huskies winning streak in NSIC competition to 38 consecutive matches. The last time the Huskies lost an NSIC dual match was an 18-13 setback against Augustana on Jan. 27, 2011.
The Huskies opened with a tech fall win by Brett Velasquez at 125-pounds and continued in the lower weights with victories by Jarred Oftedahl with a pin at 133-pounds and Taner Trembley with a major decision win at 141-pounds.
At 157-pounds, Travis Holt charted a 17-4 major win for the Huskies and number one ranked Clint Poster notched a fall at 2:23 for the Huskies at 165. In action at 174-pounds, #4 Clayton Jennissen added another victory with a 12-4 major win and Uthman Rabiu scored a 1:56 pin against NSU’s David Murphy at 184.
SCSU’s lone setback was a loss by Trae Story at 197-pounds, but the meet was finalized with a forfeit win for the Huskies by Austin Goergen at 285-pounds.
The Huskies will return to the road on Jan. 29 with a NSIC match at Minot State. SCSU will complete the NSIC road trip with a dual at Mary on Jan. 30.
