The Farmhouse Five for Females is a 5 mile multi-terrain race, which aims to encourage women runners of all abilities to get off-road on a supported and accessible route.
All category of ‘Running Goddesses’ are given the chance to excel in the event with its unusual ‘reverse start’. The slower runners the ‘Oh Wow I’m Delighted that I Did It!‘ category are the first wave to start the race, and lead the pack until the ‘I am Inherently Strong & Powerful’ category head off, with the faster women, the ‘I have the Wind Beneath My Wings’ wave, starting last hoping to hot-foot it around the footpaths! Hopefully everyone’s competitive spirit is ignited by either wishing to stay ahead, or catch up, but ultimately, it’s about inciting brilliant camaraderie on the way round!

Winners in each category are awarded with particularly female-friendly prizes, so that it isn’t all about the fastest on the day.
Green Health Events (the race organisers) are, as they suggest, all about being green and as such their carefully chosen prizes for all finishers so that they won’t end up contributing to landfill, but will hopefully be a delight to receive!
Now in its second year, and starting from the stunning barn at Lux Farm near Ipswich, the race takes place in the morning on Mother’s Day to make celebrating women the focus, as well as to welcome families to support Team Mum in activities that she loves doing, before taking her out to lunch!
This year a ‘Predictor Team Challenge’ has been added to the fun and games, where teams of three have to predict their overall winning time – with the closest to their prediction winning the team prize! (Of course watches are not allowed for those participants, but the race is chip timed so that everyone will receive their race time at the end of the day!) The idea being that everyone gets the change to stand on the podium!
One key objective for Green Health Events is to give back to the local community, not only by showcasing the fabulous local countryside, but also by supporting local businesses, but most importantly by giving back to local charities.
Charity Race Places are available through the two charity partners who are Ipswich’s Lighthouse Women’s Aid as well as St Elizabeth Hospice. In addition, a large charity raffle is held on the day with fabulous female-friendly prizes at stake and with all proceeds going directly to their chosen charity.
The Lighthouse Women’s Aid is an independent charity providing emotional support to women and children following the traumatic experience of domestic violence, and which operates a 15-room refuge in Ipswich, as well as a women and children’s wellbeing centre.
St Elizabeth Hospice is an adult hospice based in Ipswich, however all funds raised for them this year will be going directly to their new youth service, to support younger people dealing with terminal illnesses, and their carers, to enjoy a better quality of life.
The event is also recognised by the Sport England ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, for its efforts in supporting women in sport.
