The WWE NXT brand was in Nashville, TN this Saturday night for a huge live event at the War Memorial Auditorium. Camera crews were on hand to capture highlights from the main event, which featured Johnny Gargano and his wife Candice LeRae teaming up for the first time ever in a WWE ring. Mr. and Mrs. Wrestling took on reigning NXT Champion Andrade Cien Almas and his manager Zelina Vega.
LeRae was recently signed by WWE to some serious fanfare alongside fellow “indie darlings” Ricochet and War Machine (link for Peter Rosenberg). She appeared ringside at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia in support of her husband and even got into a physical confrontation with Vega during the main event. It’s expected that the two will face off in some capacity in the next few months, potentially even in a singles match at NXT Takeover: New Orleans.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Interestingly, WWE did an angle at Friday’s NXT television tapings in Atlanta essentially writing Johnny Gargano off television after losing a match with his career on the line. They won’t be filming another series of shows until March at the earliest, so it remains to be seen how that story will play out. It’s expected that he’ll be reinstated by GM William Regal to set up a match with Tommaso Ciampa in New Orleans.
