London – Monday, June 8 has been singled out as the most popular day of the year to
purchase swimwear online, according to a new study.
Data published by fashion shopping platform Lyst claims today will be the
day most women go online to purchase their summer bikini based on tracking
search traffic, analysing 2014 sales in comparison to the same period in
2015 and monitoring recent stock uploads.
The online swimwear frenzy first began earlier this year, with February 22,
2015 highlighted as the day most consumers begin to start searching for
swimwear online, followed by May 4, 2015, which saw bikinis searches begin
to increase at a ‘dramatic rate.’
New data reveals what consumers will spend on swimwear this summer
According the new info graphic published by Lyst, which lists consumer
online swimwear habits, shoppers are spending more on their bikinis this
summer, with spend on luxury swim pieces increasing 32 percent to 174
dollars compared to this time last year. Demand for niche brands, like
hand-crochet bikini label Kiini have also grown, with global searches for
Kiini up 822 percent over the past year.
The data also revealed an increased appetite for more covered swimwear
styles, as searches for high-waisted bikini bottoms increased 124 percent
year on year, matching the global trend for more covered . Search volumes for one-piece
bathing suits also grew, increasing 56 percent year on year, with 45
percent of all women’s swimwear on Lyst consisting of one-pieced styles.
The study also listed the most popular colours for swimwear this summer,
with black leading the way for both men and women as the most wanted
colour. Lyst data reports are based on its analysis of over 1 million
fashion products, over 150 million dollars in annual sales and 3 million
monthly shoppers.
