Dave Scherer on The PWInsider Elite Audio Show suggested that the original plans for Smackdown 1000 likely included The Rock either appearing on camera or pre-taping a message for the audience but that ultimately didn’t happen as The Rock instead chose to tweet a congratulations for the show. Scherer adds that it is very possible that The Rock decided not to appear on TV (live or taped) after the latest controversy with WWE’s upcoming show in Saudi Arabia, feeling that he didn’t want to be associated with the wrestling promotion while this was going on.
It appears as if WWE is once again interested in working with Batista for him to return to the ring – likely next year at WrestleMania – as they dropped a very obvious tease that he could feud with Triple H and a more subtle tease that a program with Randy Orton could also be in the plans. As previously reported, Batista is eager to return to WWE for a final farewell before he retires and up until lately, WWE hadn’t reciprocated those feelings.
As a follow-up to an earlier headline about Evolution ticket sales not doing as well after WWE initially announced the top match as Alexa Bliss vs. Trish Stratus, the event is now close to sold out after the company switched that match and Lita vs. Mickie James into a tag team match and began promoting Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella as the main event instead. Internally, almost everyone is chalking this up to the great marketability of Rousey and to a lesser extent, Nikki.
It has been announced that Mike Kanellis will be taking on Lince Dorado on next Wednesday’s episode of 205 Live, which will be The 100th episode. It was also announced that Hideo Itami & Mustafa Ali will be facing off in a Falls Count Anywhere Match.
