Backstage: Kane, Brad Maddox & Seth Rollins
We shoot backstage and we see Brad Maddox talking to Kane. Kane is upset and yells at Maddox, asking him who he thinks he is. Rollins bursts in and asks Kane who he thinks he is. Kane tells Rollins where they’re on vacation at and says there’s no communication with them so he’s running things tonight whether Rollins likes it or not. Rollins storms off but then comes back. He tells Kane that HHH and Steph might be unreachable right now but when they get back, Kane is gonna have a lot of explaining to do to them. Kane tells Rollins he’s in control tonight and what’s best for business is Rollins competing in a match tonight. He tells Rollins that his match is next, but doesn’t say against who.
Brock Lesnar’s Attack From Last Week
We go back to the commentary team where the guys talk about Michael Cole’s injuries. They say Cole is contemplating suing Brock Lesnar. They then talk about the punishment Lesnar got for his actions. They show a video package of Lesnar snapping last week on RAW.
Seth Rollins vs. Neville
After the Lesnar video package, Rollins’ theme hits and out he comes with J&J Security. The announcers point out that Rollins has no idea who he’s about to face. Lilian Garcia does the official introduction for Rollins. The announcers again question who Rollins is going to face. We head to commercial without finding out. We will find out — next!
As we return, Rollins and J&J Security are arguing off-mic as Saxton and JBL plug the free month of the WWE Network for the month of April. After the plug we head back to the ring. It’s time to find out who Rollins’ opponent is. It’s Neville.
Neville makes his way to the ring to a good pop from the crowd in Austin, Texas. Lilian Garcia does the official introduction for Neville as he enters the ring. The fans chant “NXT! NXT!” as Rollins gets on the mic.
Rollins says he certainly wasn’t expecting this. He asks the WWE Universe to give a warm welcome to Neville. The fans cheer. Rollins says Neville just made his RAW debut last week and now he’s standing in the ring with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He tells Neville to tell these people a little about himself. He puts the mic near Neville but then pulls it away. He tells Neville he was a “rook” once before too. He says, “Why don’t you just sit this one out, pip-squeek, how’s that sound?”
Neville responds by spin-kicking Rollins in the gut and knocking him down. Rollins finally makes it back to his feet and the referee calls for the bell.
Rollins and Neville are flying all over the place now. Rollins finally catches Neville with a knee to the face coming off the ropes and appears to be the first person to establish offensive control in this one.
Rollins blasts Neville with a few chops and then puts the boots to him in the corner. Neville flips his way out of the corner, flips across the ring and then hits the ropes and headscissors Rollins out to the floor. Neville hits the ring and does a big flipping-dive onto Rollins on the floor. Rollins freaks out with J&J Security as we head to a mid-match commercial.
We’re back from the break and the first thing we see is Rollins firmly in control of the match. The announcers point out that Rollins has been dominating the action throughout the break. We see some replays of Rollins slamming Neville’s head into the middle turnbuckle. Rollins chokes Neville and asks if he thinks he can hang with the big boys.
JBL keeps accidentally calling Neville “Adrian Neville.” Meanwhile, Neville is making his comeback in the ring. Rollins cuts it short with a big kick to the back of Neville’s head. The announcers are selling the fact that Rollins, the champ, is having his hands full with the newcomer Neville. Rollins continues to dominate Neville. Neville gets a schoolboy hope spot but Rollins kicks out and continues to beat down the former NXT Champion.
“All that flippy-flopping don’t help when you get punched in the mouth,” says JBL, as Rollins continues to control the rookie in the ring. Neville hits a jawbreaker on Rollins to slow him down. Neville starts punching his way back into the match. He knocks Rollins down and then hits him with a couple of spinning back-kicks to the mid-section before Rollins cuts him off with a big clothesline.
Rollins slaps Neville around and asks him who he thinks he is stepping into his ring. Neville fights back. Neville nails Rollins with a high kick to the face in the corner. He goes to the top rope for the Red Arrow, but J&J Security get on the apron to distract the ref. Neville comes off the top and grabs Rollins. He rolls him up but Rollins kicks out at two. Rollins powerbombs Neville back-first into the corner and then Curb Stomps him. 1-2-3. Rollins wins.
Winner: Seth Rollins
After The Match
After the match, Rollins has J&J Security hold Neville so he can Curb Stomp him again. Rollins hits him with another Curb Stomp and then taunts him by rubbing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in his face while he talks trash. Rollins holds the title high as his theme music plays again. He and J&J Security leave.
