As announced in an official statement, OGC Nice have signed Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel who has signed a 3-year deal with Les Aiglons. He leaves the Premier League side side after an iconic 11 years at the club in which he won the Premier League in 2015/16 as well as reaching the Champions League quarter finals the year after.

In recent days an agreement was reached between the two clubs over a €1m fee, which excludes potential add-ons of which would be activated if Nice qualify for the Champions League.

The goalkeeper had agreed to join the Ligue 1 club last week after initially giving himself time to think about the offer, while Leicester appeared to be unwilling to let him go at first until they found a replacement number one.

The Dane arrives as a replacement for the Franco-Argentine Walter Benítez, who left on a free transfer to PSV Eindhoven, while initial target Yann Sommer changed his mind on joining despite having a contract offer on the table and a fee being agreed with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Schmeichel joins in a flurry of transfer activity at Nice, which included the signature of former Arsenal man Aaron Ramsey (31), as well as young French midfielder Alexis Beka Beka (21) – the club also announced today the signing of Italian defender Mattia Viti (20) who joins from Serie A side Empoli.
